Philosophy

Currently, Thailand is facing a shortage of personnel with knowledge and skills in various fields to increase the country’s long-term competitiveness. In particular, the shortage of personnel in science and technology that Thailand is currently facing is the shortage of personnel with knowledge and skills who will be technological leaders in large numbers in order to create and drive the technologies that the country needs. One reason for this shortage of personnel is that domestic educational institutions are still unable to produce sufficient personnel with doctoral degrees who have these qualifications to meet demand. Furthermore, supporting potential individuals to study for doctoral degrees abroad is expensive, resulting in a low number of researchers and researchers who are technological leaders in various fields.

The Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, has developed teaching and research in civil engineering to be internationally recognized. It is considered that the production of personnel with research and technology skills will stimulate and promote the continuous development of human resources and research activities, which will be an important foundation for the country's further development. In addition to using the resources available at Thammasat University, students or researchers can also collaborate on research with government research agencies and many industrial sectors in the vicinity. This academic environment will support doctoral students to develop academic knowledge and research to the international level while at the same time being able to apply that knowledge to the construction industry in the country that requires high-level technology.

Importance

In developing the country so that people in society have a better quality of life and living conditions, in addition to accelerating human development, we must also accelerate the promotion of advances in science and technology in order to use natural resources appropriately and efficiently, and not create negative impacts on society directly or indirectly. If we want to achieve real results in practice, especially in the current situation where the country’s economic growth is rapid, we need a large number of scientists and engineers with knowledge and ability, along with the determination of clear policies and guidelines for implementation in this matter at the national level.

However, it is well known that Thailand has a limited number of scientists and engineers and it is not enough to support the growth rate of the country. Therefore, the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, as a government agency providing higher education services, is aware of the problem and sees the benefits of expanding the provision of education at the doctoral level. This program not only helps increase the production of engineers with high knowledge and skills in the field, but also helps increase the number of quality researchers for the country by using the current educational resources of the government. File: Doctoral degree program in Civil Engineering 2013 7 will also lead to the increase of knowledge or the creation of new sciences and research works for lecturers and researchers in the department, as well as the development of appropriate and sustainable technologies, which will be beneficial to the development of the country in the future.
